Volvo Ocean Race 2008/2009
Living on a sail boat without any luxury and comfort for 9 months. Sleeping in an awkward position, 2 kilo’s of luggage, dry food, a moving toilet and only men on board to spend your free time with. Tommy experienced what it feels like to be a topsailor aboard the Team Delta Lloyd boat which took part in the Volvo Ocean race 2008/2009.



Volvo Ocean Race  
The Volvo Ocean Race is an around the world sailing competition which takes place every three years. The race lasts 8 to 9 months and for the men on board this means months and months of hard work and suffering. But they don't care about that because during the race it’s all about one thing: winning!

Team Delta Lloyd
Tommy had a look on board of the Team Delta Lloyd sail boat. Front deck man Gerd-Jan Poortman showed him around on the boat. The crew have only one thing on their mind for 9 months and that’s sailing. They do it for the unforgettable experience and the urge to win. Despite a few set backs, like a broken boat, the team made it to the finish line on June 27th of 2009. They became 7th in the race.
